His introduction to fighting came at the age of 5 when he started wrestling, growing up to compete on the Olympic Wrestling teams in 1992 and 1996. He started his MMA training the following year, in 1997. Before coming to the UFC, Henderson won the 1997 Brazil Open.
His first two UFC fights were both at UFC 17: Redemption where he first beat out Carlos Newton and then Allan Goes, both by decision. At that point he stopped fighting for the UFC and joined RINGS, where he won all five of his bouts, including the 1999 title of Rings King of Kings. He followed that up fighting with PRIDE for many years, becoming the first fighter to simultaneously hold both the Middleweight and Welterweight titles, belts which he still holds as of this writing. He battled in 18 PRIDE bouts before returning to the UFC, only to lose to Quinton Jackson at UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion, and Anderson Silva at UFC 82: Pride of a Champion.
Cofounder of Team Quest (along with Randy "The Natural" Couture), "Hollywood" Henderson owns his own line of clothing, called Clinch Gear.
As of this writing, Henderson's overall MMA record is 22-8-0.
