End of the Road for Tank?
UFC veteran David “Tank” Abbott ran out of gas before the clock counted down the first minute in his Elite XC Showtime bout Saturday night, February 16, against relative newcomer Kimbo Slice.
Until then, Slice had only seen 19 seconds of actual fight-time, a single match to his name, whereas Tank hadn’t seen a single win since ’98. With those stats, no one knew who was less poised for the showdown.
It turned out to be Tank, who was slammed with a relentless stream of sledgehammer blows and came crashing to the mat facefirst with a final straight right just 43 seconds in. Until then Abbot had written Slice off as nothing more than a product of media hype, but the YouTube streetfighter stunned him, literally, with his unexpected power.
Though he started his career off right, back at UFC 6 in 1995, 42-year-old Tank’s future with the UFC and MMA in general is now in question, his record a dismal 9-14.
