Liddell Down But Not Out
After Quinton Jackson handily unseated him from his throne with a brutal knockdown after just 2 minutes in the Octagon, followed by 3 humiliating rounds getting pummelled by Keith Jardine, light heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell had MMA fans and fellow fighters alike believing his 7-fight winning streak was little more than a fluke.
His royal status at training camp obliterated, his mohawk drooping limpily, the 38-year old “Iceman” seemed poised to melt away into early retirement. But after a serious attitude adjustment creditted to Olympic silver medalist and two-time NCAA title holder Sam Hensen, now Cal Poly assistant wrestling coach, Liddell’s hardened up again and is ready to take back the glory he once owned.
In June’s upcoming UFC 85, to be held in London, England, The Iceman squares off with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua who holds a 16-3 record in the MMA and 0-1 in the UFC to Liddell’s 21-5 MMA and 16-4 UFC.
